Phonics Phase 2 m d g o c k Picture/word match cards

(0)
What’s included? x4 sheets (activities and answers) for Phase 2 Set 1 (letters - m d g o c k). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to practise and reinforce the first six sounds in Phase 2 - s a t p i n AND m d g o c k. Learners sound out the words on the ‘word cards’ and match these to the images on the ‘picture cards’. Answers are clearly presented on pages 3 and 4 for quick easy reference - encouraging learners to be autonomous. This ‘Phase 2’ phonics practise activity set (2) has been designed to be a simple, predictable matching activity to promote independence and consolidate knowledge of the first set of letters/sounds introduced. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or for an adult to use to support learners needing some extra help/to revisit these sounds. Phase 2, set 1 (sounds s a t p i n) is also available (in same design) in my TES shop if you like this one. How to use it? The adult can pre-cut the x16 rectangular shaped picture cards (x8) and word cards (x8) (pages 1 and 2). Grey dotted lines guide where to cut. These x16 cards can then be shuffled and placed on a table top for learners to read and match. Resource Details… The words on the word cards only use the letters s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k (from sets 1 AND 2) These words are: dog map pig cap pot mat pod cogs Learners may find ‘pod’, ‘cogs’ and ‘mat’ more tricky to match as these three words are not as obvious/may be ‘new’ concepts to learners, encouraging learners to think a bit more about the meaning of the words on the cards. E.g. some learners may not know that a ‘pea’ grows inside of a ‘pod’. Learners may not know/be familiar with ‘cogs’ (or know they are called) and learners may confuse ‘cat’ with ‘mat’. I have included an orange arrow pointing to the ‘mat’ to help make this clearer. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant. Handwriting practise - numbers 1 to 12

What’s included? This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 1 to 12. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these twelve numerals correctly, using green (go!) starting dots and red (stop!) dots to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Support (colour coded) arrows also guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150. This activity has been designed to write straight on. Each letter has clear ‘starting’ and ‘ending’ dots so learners know where to place their pencil to begin and dotted lines on top of letters provide guidance of where exactly to write. There is a clear space for learners to write their name on the line at the base of the sheet and a clear space to record the number-date at the top of the sheet - helpful to keep sheets and track progress (and improvement!) over time… Important message… ANY issues with this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make any changes. SATPIN Grapheme, WORD and picture match/writing activity

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x25 pdf pages, portrait orientation in colour featuring TWO different resources which can be used together. The first resource is a set of x5 OR x10 ‘sound/picture and WORD’ puzzles which are to be cut up and matched. The second resource is a matching set of activity sheets which can be completed on their own or AFTER the ‘sound/picture and WORD puzzles’ have been completed. There is a set of resources for ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’, ‘p’, ‘i’ AND ‘n’. The words to sound out only use letters found in Phases 2 and 3 - perfect to practise and reinforce Phase 2/3 sound knowledge in both reading and writing. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in year one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? This resource has been designed to practise sounding out words using letters/sounds within Phases 2 and 3 - sounding out to spell, read and write them. Resource Details Resource 1 The tick in each image box on pages 1 and 2 (top right) indicates that these images are words which can be sounded out. The layout of every letter/sound/word puzzle in this set is in the same format, making this a predictable and structured activity, ideal to keep learners engaged and independent. Resource 2 Pages 1 and 2 are the SAME activity sheet but at TWO levels - with MORE support (page 1) and LESS support (page 2). Both activity sheets are for practising sounding out and writing words. Page 3 clearly shows the ‘answers’. How to use it? Resource 1. An adult prints these two pages out (ideally onto card) and cuts along the dotted lines, including to separate the ‘letters/images/words’. Instructions are also included (left side). The set (of cut up letters, images and words) can then be placed on a table top for learners to match - the correct initial letter with the image AND word - as a ‘three part’ mini jigsaw puzzle. Each (correct) letter and word only fits the corresponding image. Resource 2. Learners are to sound out and write the words for the images featured on the sheet, one image per box. Page 1 is easier to complete (than page 2) as lines (to write on) show how many sounds are in each word. Any ‘red’ lines to write on indicate a ‘tricky’ sound which may be difficult to hear clearly when the word is spoken or may be an irregular spelling (not yet learnt). Learners may need help with these letters/sounds. Page 3 clearly shows the answers. Red letters identify a tricky/irregular spelling. Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Feedback of this resource would be brilliant. Thank you! What’s included? This download includes one A4, pdf sheet (portrait orientation) to practise handwriting numerals 0 to 10. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed to break down each step involved in writing these eleven numerals correctly, using green (go!) ‘starting dots’ and red ‘stop dots’ to make it clear to learners exactly where to begin and end writing. Colour coded arrows guide learners on which direction to follow. This resource should help in providing some focused additional support looking at these numerals more closely for those pupils who need a greater level of support and maybe find it harder to remember which direction to follow. This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource details The font used is Sassoon Infant Std - size 150. This activity has been designed to write straight on. High frequency word Read/match - Nouns ('tricky' words)

(0)
What’s included? This download includes x4 sheets, all portrait orientation, pdf format. What’s it for? This activity set has been designed to give learners an opportunity to look more closely at a set of the first 100/200 high frequency words and practise seeing these words on sight while matching these words with images. This set focuses on tricky words, all ‘nouns’ - all words included have a matching image. This is a simple, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals/groups to be getting on with independently or those needing some individual 1:1 support. How to use it? An adult can pre-cut along dotted lines provided and the set of x17 words (and images) can be shuffled and placed face-up on the carpet/a table top for learners to look at carefully and try to match. Resource Details… These words are all from the first 100/200 high frequency word list and are all ‘tricky’. Red letters indicate the ‘tricky’ part/s. Some letters are underlined - this indicates that together these (underlined) letters have one sound. A ‘key’ is included at the top of each sheet (top, right). The lilac box outline colour indicates that these words are all part of the ‘nouns’ set (other sets are coming!) The small, white cross (top left of each image box) indicates that these words are not intended to be sounded out. Adults may wish to provide learners with one sheet at a time (cut up and ready to ‘match’) or all x4 sheets at once. All sheets provide learners with an opportunity to become more familiar with seeing and reading these words on-sight. The words on sheets 1 to 4 have been arranged alphabetically and are as follows: ball bear clothes door eyes giant head horse house magic mouse money one school shoe two water Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. (0)
What’s included? x10 sheets (picture/CVC word cards) for CVC words focusing on a, e, i, o and u. Split into x5 sets (x10 picture/word cards per set). Portrait orientation, pdf format. Also included are instructions of how to make a ‘Function Machine’ and what is needed to make one. These cards are designed to be used with a Function Machine, however you may have another use in mind… Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. What’s it for? As said, these CVC cards have been designed to be printed double-sided on card to use with the ‘Function Machine’ (~instructions of how to make one of these included) to practise sounding out simple CVC (Phase 2 phonics) words - Learners read each word then push the card into the top function machine slot and can see if they are correct when the picture pops out of the slot below. This activity has been designed to be a simple, interactive, predictable activity to promote independence and consolidate learning. This activity is ideal for individuals to be getting on with independently. How to use it? An adult needs to print these card (double-sided) onto card and and pre-cut the cards into x10 separate rectangle cards. The set of cards can then be placed on a table top, positioned with a ‘Function Machine’ for learners to use on their own or perhaps with adult support (initially). Learners read each word by sounding out the individual phonemes, they then push the card into the top slot of the function machine and find out if they are correct when the picture pops out of the lower slot… Phoneme ‘dots’ have been included under every grapheme so that learners know how many sounds to say as they read (sound out) the words. Resource Details… The words/pictures included use phonemes/graphemes from Phases 2 and 3 but mainly Phase 2. Each set is a different colour to avoid cards becoming mixed up. Words included in each set are - Red (Set a) cap, cat, crab, map, pan, mat, van, hat, bat, bag (Phase 3 sounds v) Orange (Set e) peg, bell, hen, red, bed, dress, web, ten, yes, pen (Phase 3 sounds w, y) Yellow (Set** i**) fig, bin, zip, pig, lips, pink, pip, wig, stick (not to be confused with ‘twig’ !), pin (Phase 3 sounds w, z) Green (Set** o**) dog, shop, frog, rock, cogs, clock, box, pot, fox, socks (Phase 3 sounds x) Blue (Set** u**’) mug, bun (may be confused with ‘cake’ or ‘cupcake’ though in Yorkshire (where I am from!) this is a ‘bun’!), duck, cup, truck, slug, sun, bug, plug, hut (Phase 3 sounds - none in this set) Important message… ANY issues with any of this resource please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes. Correcting Sentences, reading and writing

What’s included? This download includes four A4, portrait pdf sheets to practise reading and writing to correct x8 simple sentences. Every sentence has x3 mistakes to correct. The last two pages are the answer pages - the same sentences with every mistake made clear. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details Pages 1 and 2 both include x4 sentences, each in a separate box, illustrated with a simple image on the right. Both pages include the same instructions at the top - making it clear to learners that there are x3 mistakes in each sentence and what these mistakes might be. Mistakes may be spellings, capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. There is a clear space for learners to write their name at the base of both pages. The words included and spelling errors make the level of this activity aimed at learners who are learning Phase 5 phonics. Sentences include words containing Phase 5 sounds (ea, ay, a-e, aw, ph) as well as a knowledge of common high frequency words including she, you, his, are, and, said, see, their, not, with, at, the, to, do, that, can, in, loved, dad. The pictures provide clues to assist reading unfamiliar words (e.g. lions, zoo, sheep, lambs, chicken, grapes, bake) to encourage learners to use a range of reading skills when decoding these sentences if they are not at a level to read them on-sight. Pages 3 and 4 clearly show the answers in exactly the same format to encourage learners to be autonomous in checking their own learning. Each mistake is circled in pink and corrected clearly underneath to make clear to learners exactly where and what each mistake was. Alphabet letters for window display

Alphabet letters for window display

(0)
What’s included? This pdf download includes x5 landscape orientation sheets featuring every alphabet letter and clear step by step instructions to create colourful acetate/cellophane letters for (window) display. What’s it for? These letters have been designed to install and sense of awe and wonder - the letters look so beautiful when the sun shines through them and where the coloured letter shape ‘falls’ depends on the position of the letters in relation to the sun which changes as the sun’s position changes throughout the day. The set gives an opportunity to showcase the whole alphabet together to encourage learners to recognise and name each letter (and sound) and practise ordering the letters of the alphabet (depending on how they are displayed). The letters can of course be repositioned to create words and labels as you choose. I have included ‘labels’ for the words ‘Hello’ and ‘Welcome’ as a separate listing in my TES shop - these could be good for displaying on a glass panel on a classroom door where you meet and greet parent/carers. This resource supports work on shadows, light/dark and better understanding the shape of lowercase letters to develop greater recognition. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students who would appreciate a pop of colour shining through letters/words when the sun comes out! Resource Details The letters are all in the font ‘Sassoon Infant Std’ - size 220-250, so a clear, ‘easy to read’ size. There are x5 pages. The first includes clear, simple step-by-step instructions and the remaining pages includes all of the alphabet letters (not in order). Suggestions I recommend printing and making these letters out of white card - paper would be too flimsy and see-through so not effective. A set of coloured acetate/cellophane sheets is needed to make these - these are quite inexpensive on Amazon(!) I recommend also backing every letter in white card so that the coloured acetate/cellophane is concealed within the card - this looks so much nicer on the window and makes each letter stronger however is twice the work and time (and card!) to create. If made well the first time these could last years and create a very beautiful addition, offering inspiration in any learning space. Important message… ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes AND I am happy to create a different version if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Phase 2 Phonics CVC word wheel Read/Write real/nonsense words

(0)
What’s included? This download includes three A4, portrait pdf sheet to practise reading and writing CVC words all made using letters within Phase 2. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as older students needing additional learning support. Resource Details The layout includes x2 wheels, one for the ‘front’ (wheel 1) and one for the back - with the x2 sets of vowels on (wheel 2). Once assembled (according to instructions included on the pdf) the ‘CVC Phonics Wheel’ can be turned to reveal one vowel in the centre of the two consonants displayed/written on the front of the wheel. The wheel can be turned clockwise or anticlockwise, the direction doesn’t matter. Some words will be ‘real’ e.g. den//hen/men/pen and some words will not be real (will be ‘nonsense’) words e.g. len/ren. Real/nonsense words made can be written on page 3. There is space for x10 real and x10 nonsense words to be written here and a clear space for learners to write their name (at the base of the sheet). Suggestion For older, more able learners this activity could be linked to looking up new words in the dictionary to find out if they are/are not real words and if they are ‘real’ words e.g. ‘fen’ find out what their meanings are (Fen is used to refer to an area of low, flat, wet land, especially in the east of England) - so now you know! Important message… ANY issues with any of this CVC phonics wheel please don’t hesitate to let me know - I am happy to make changes as needed. Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!
How to make a Function Machine

How to make a Function Machine

(0)
What is a Function Machine ? A ‘function machine’ is a shoebox with two slots (like a post box) which adults/learners can ‘post’ a double-sided card (e.g. a credit-card size) into the top slot and this will pop out of the lower slot reversed…to younger learners this can seem like ‘magic’ ! What’s it for? Once this is made it can be used in loads of ways as different sets of double-sided cards are built up to use with it. Examples include - number bond sums doubles facts times tables practising phonics sounds (grapheme on one side, image with that initial sound on the reverse) reading noun words (picture on reverse reveals answer) The list of possible uses is endless and up to you which direction to take this in… This is a great resource to invest in making as it’s a little bit different but can be used to demonstrate learning in an interactive way and for those learners who like to ‘do’ this can really engage and keep them interested - learning without realising - perfect! I have included a description as best as I can along with photos for every step (and from different angles) to try and make exactly what to do as clear as possible. It’s actually not that tricky once you grasp the aim but when it’s made (and it works!) it’s so cool - kids really like it! What’s included? a list of exactly what is needed x5 portrait orientation pdf instruction sheets (with photos) explaining exactly what to do - step by step Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one as well as students needing additional learning support. Special request ANY issues with any of this please don’t hesitate to let me know. This was pretty tricky to explain clearly and succinctly and if my instructions are unclear I’d really like to know so I can improve them for others. If at any point you hit frustration in making this I really want to help so please do let me know. I apologise now if these instructions are not easy to follow and simple but really hope they are and help you! I am happy to make any changes AND I am happy to create a new resource if you have an idea just let me know - I’d love to hear from you! Feedback of this resource would be wonderful! Thank you!
